Climate strike for Future!

Hey guys! We started our day by joining the global movement on climate change. A group of us, students and citizens had a demonstration at Gandhi Park in Kumbakonam between 7.00 am and 9.00 am.
We started with Gandhi’s quote on the need for activism, the importance of speaking up and why it’s essential to live a sustainable living.
It was a proud moment to come together as a community and showing solidarity with children because they had exams later in the day and yet they chose to organise this demonstration. Given the system, It takes a lot of courage, motivation to do this! We went around the park and had interesting discussions on climate change and every person in the park wanted to know so what can be done by them and we discussed the need for demanding structural changes and they were more keen on what can be done by them. There were discussions on science vs Religion when we spoke about extinction. It made me realise how we need such public forums and dialogues to discuss such things!
Municipal commissioner of Kumbakonam also came to support the youth and they gave a letter on how Kumbakonam could lead the change and demands such as having a separate cycle lane, complete enforcement of segregation of waste and compulsory environmental education at Municipal level was proposed. He supported the idea that we need many more public awareness in the town and said he would join such programs too.
And, it ended with plans for sustained actions and efforts.
